Travelust - Tableau Information Visualization

Travelust is an interactive online information visualization that helps travelers budget their trips. It provides information about the costs of travel to the 79 most popular destinations in the world. As a Tableau Public data visualization, Travelust helps people make informed decisions about trips to the world’s top 79 city destinations.The main goals of Travelust are to:

  • Allow users to view travel costs in various cities depending on the user’s spending preferences (budget, midrange, and luxurious).
  • Offer cost breakdown of selected cities in U.S. Dollars. The breakdown includes lodge, food, transit, and activity.
  • Allow users to compare destination costs so that they can make informed decisions that match their budget needs.

Share - Location Based Web Chat APP

Share is a single-page web App that encourages people to share items. The App allows users to post messages and displays messages posted by other users nearby. It created multiple micro sharing economy communities at University of Washington. At libraries, dorms, coffee shops, people use Share App to solve daily problems by sharing chargers, pens, papers, and more.

Share is built on Google App Engine, written with Python. Share utilizes GQL to store data.

Wikimedia Research: FORI Usage

The internet contains a wealth of resources that provide high-quality information to the public for free. How do people decide which of these websites to visit when they want to learn something new?

The research involves a survey of undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at the University of Washington during the 2015-16 academic year. Participation in the survey are elicited primarily through UW listservs and social media.

The process is documented at the Wikimedia Foundation site.
